Kids

We have tried to make our house as child-friendly as it is dog-friendly. It has been thoroughly tested by several families with young children - and we're pleased to say it survived ;-) And they had a fab time! Here are a few things you might like to know - contact us if we've missed out anything important.

Safety First!

We have removed our travel cot after reading health and safety guidelines. Shared mattresses are linked to cot death, and if we supplied the cot and let parents bring the mattress, it would have to fit perfectly, otherwise that would be yet another risk. We pride ourselves in being fully-equipped, but we're sure that parents would rather bring their own than put their baby at risk.

We have a fixed stair gate at the bottom of the stairs which retracts so it isn't in the way if you don't need it. Our kitchen cupboards don't have locks on and we don't have a hob-guard, but we do have a tall stair gate in the kitchen doorway which is very effective in keeping little two-legged (and bigger four-legged) friends away from things they shouldn't touch!

We have a third stair gate which you can put anywhere. When our nieces and nephews stay, we put it on the landing outside the bathroom. This keeps them away from the stairs, but gives them plenty of room to run about.

Many of our upstairs windows are low. They should all be locked when you arrive, but do check them and put the keys out of reach.

The back garden is pretty secure. It has a gate leading to the front driveway which has a few latches and bolts on it - one is right at the top where kids can't reach. The road itself is pretty quiet. We have a raised pond but don't yet have a cover for it.

We have some bright and educational table mats which we hope will interest children of all ages - and help protect our table ;-) There are also some plastic table cloths which you can use if you do any craft work with them - we have some coloured pens and pencils and colouring-in books.

We also have a selection of toys and books to keep them occupied while you prepare picnics, cook tea - and snatch a few minutes "me" time here and there!

Plus board games, X-box games - and of course, the daily air-show above the garden! We also have a wide variety of birds visiting our bird feeders, including Phil & Phyllis the pheasants, and also nesting in our nesting boxes, so there are always things to see even at the house!
